The George Hotel

The George Hotel is the oldest pub in the village, going back to Tudor times and, like the White Hart further up the High Street, was a coaching inn in the days when that street was one of the main roads from London to the south coast.

The southern part of the building, on the right as you look at it, is mid-16th century. The George, a Grade II Listed building, is still a hotel and, at one time, also housed the horses that drew the village fire engine.
